Walking between Sabang and Small Lalaguna Beach, you can't fail to miss The Point. In fact, many visitors to Puerto, once they've found The Point, find it hard to escape.
So what is The Point? To call It simply a bar is understating its potential. While not really a restaurant either, it is actually a part of the excellent El Galleon Beach Resort and therefore serves the same sumptuous menu on offer at the resort. Its not a night-club either, although the amount of hard liquor consumed in the
form of shooters, a house specialty, is often staggering, in which state many of the patrons may also be found after a long night there.
You really couldn't call it a watering hole as, although it is surrounded on three sides by water, few, if any, of the guests ever drink water there. Its certainly not a disco, as that particular brand of music is not permitted within its confines, though to be honest it is not unusual to find frenzied revellers dancing wildly on occasion.
Mein Host, Allan Nash, popular PADI Course Director and Asia Divers Entrepreneur, has created a truly unique entertainment concept at The Point, one which packs them in night after night. Situated above Asia Divers' most recent Dive Centre (they have 4 in the immediate vicinity), The Point is at once sophisticated yet simple,
a centre of entertainment and relaxation. On a recent visit, we found two Hongkong Lawyers, a senior Lufthansa executive and his family, a Banker, three yacht owners, a variety of tourists of all nationalities and a gaggle of SCUBA instructors from several different local dive centres mixing it up. Its easy to make friends at The Point.
The adjacent El Galleon Beach Resort, with the best views on the island from its upper rooms, is the ideal family get-away, with a variety of aircon and fans rooms to suit most budgets. Unlike The Point, peace, tranquility, privacy and lush, tropical surroundings are the order of the day here. A resident, somewhat peripatetic French Chef
provides a mouth-watering mélange of Continental and Asian cuisine to satisfy the most discerning palates, as well as a great deal of amusement when provoked.
After a hard day's diving, swimming, sailing, hiking or bronzing in Puerto Gaiera, there's really no better place to unwind. And that, dear reader, is exactly The Point.
