We are sure that the beauty of Puerto Galera will fascinate you; it captivated us both of us so much that we opted to stay! The attraction is not just the island itself, with its amazing mountain range, virgin rainforests and white sandy beaches but also the 10 km of silent coral reefs just waiting to be explored. We are sure you will realize, as we did, that this is paradise.

Within a few weeks of arriving in 1993 Georg had found his plot of land in Sabang and the construction of his 'small dive store and restaurant' commenced: The eventual construction period of 10 months reminds us of the Egyptians building the pyramids. All the material had to be brought in and worked out by hand; there was no modern construction machinery.

On paper it looked small, but as the building took shape he began to realize how big it was. The whole undertaking became so huge that friends began to call the 1000 sq. roof, which accommodates the dive shop and the restaurant, the "wool shed".

As soon as this "entrance" was finished he started to work on the building of the apartments, another "Egyptian" undertaking. Excavation, soil movement, transport and construction was completed by a team of more than 80 workers. Thousands of bags of gravel, sand, stones and cement had to be brought in by boat, transported up the hill and worked out. Twenty-eight months later, in September 1997, the 32 rooms were ready for occupation.

Meanwhile Andy was working his way through the levels of dive instruction at a nearby dive store, managing a team of nine instructors and working his way towards his goal of Course Director (the highest rating in recreational scuba; there are less than 800 in the world) which he achieved in September 1998. He dove the sites of Puerto Galera some 3,500 times and gained experience in resort and dive store management.

In August 2000 we decided to combine our talents and take Atlantis to what we hope you will find to be an exceptional level of comfort, style and unique underwater experiences in Puerto Galera. The mix of the native "wool shed", the beautiful fresh water swimming pool and our Mediterranean-style terraced apartments all blend into the tropical garden surrounding. It really is breathtaking if you take a look from the top. Today magazines and travel guidebooks describe Atlantis Dive Resort in Puerto Galera as one of the most outstanding resorts in the Philippines.
